The Proposal

What is my project:

Learning the tin flute

What is my driving question that I am learning?

Am I able to learn the tin flute and play it with some ease.

Who will work with me on this project?

On my own and maybe with the help of my cat who hates when I play the tin flute.

Who is the audience for this project?

I want to video tape myself and show my mother that I can play the tin flute.  She is Irish.  I also want to play for Ms. Cameron who learned to play an instrument two years ago.  She is my inspiration.

I also want to play for friends and family at family gatherings.

Why is this project worthwhile?

It's simpler to carry around a tin flute than a piano.  It's also something that I can continue to grow with as I get older.

What do you expect to learn?

  • To learn the finger movements for each note.
  • to be fluid in my playing so it's not choppy.
  • To learn all the chords again.
  • To read music as I go and play any song I want.
  • Later on to do a comparison from the one flute to the other.

What Product will you have to show at the end of the year to visitors who come to learn from you?

I will play a tune.

What sort of expenses will be involved in your project and how will you cover them.

The flute itself and maybe some sheet music.   The flute was $25.

What sort of equipment will you need and where will you get it?

The flute was purchased at Longsdale Key.

What is my timeline for completing my project

I will never complete it as it's a continuous project.  But I do plan on having my first song ready by the end of the year.

My Tasks.

There are many.  But right now my notes sound terrible, so I need to start practicing.  There is someone in my class who knows the flute so I feel self-conscious, but I am hoping that I am strong enough in character to try anyways.  Failure is just another name for a new learning experience.
  1. finger technique
  2. how to blow into the tin flute properly.
  3. the cords
  4. practice exercises.
  5. Learn Twinkle Twinkle
  6. Go through 1 video a week.

How will I present.

At a table, playing my music on and off.  I need a couple of short songs to play.
